Michael Caven is an exceptional realtor—that is what he does, and he does it better than anyone in the business. However, he isn’t just a real estate agent. He is also an activist.
Caven is well-known in the gay, lesbian, and transgender community as being an advocate of the rights of everyone in the LGBT community. He doesn’t just talk the talk, either—he walks the walk. Here are some of the steps he has taken on behalf of the entire LGBT population:
- In Columbus, Ohio, Caven conceptualized and opened the only LGBT themed restaurant in the United States. He was responsible for the idea, the creation, and the management of the restaurant. It was called “Out on Main”.
- Caven co-founded the philanthropic partner to his “Out on Main” restaurant, called the FLIP Foundation.
- Caven also co-founded the Legacy Fund at the Columbus Foundation.
- Caven has done excessive volunteer work with the Ohio AIDS Hotline and the AIDS Buddy Program throughout the years. He also worked with the Kaleidoscope Youth Coalition and Emergency Services, helping kids in need. His volunteer work also included time with Suicide Prevention hotlines.
- Caven has been a board member of GLAAD.
- He was a Stonewall Columbus President and Board Member.
Caven has received many awards for his work on behalf of the LGBT community over the last several years as well:
- In 1997, Caven received the Stonewall Columbus President’s Service Award.
- He received the Human Rights Campaign Equality Award in Columbus, Ohio in 1999.
- Caven received the AWARDS Living Legend Award in 2000. This was through the outincolumbus.com Outie Awards.
Michael Caven has grown to become an important and well-recognized advocate among the LGBT community in Center City, Philadelphia and elsewhere. He is well-known for his work in many LGBT neighborhoods and populations.
